Snapshots support fast recovery

Production snapshots create frequent recovery points that can be used to restore systems or data quickly after an operational issue.

They are particularly useful when the problem is recent—such as accidental deletion, corruption, a failed change, or another event where the firm needs to return to a known-good state without performing a full restore from traditional backup media.

Snapshots are one layer of recovery, not a replacement for backup.

Backups provide longer-term protection

ProCirrus maintains robust daily, weekly, and longer-term backup retention so firms have recovery points beyond the most recent production snapshots.

This helps protect against situations where an issue is not discovered immediately or where the firm needs to recover information from an earlier point in time.

Backup data is protected separately from the active production environment and monitored as part of the broader managed infrastructure.

Data is protected across geographically separate U.S. data centers

Recovery should not depend on a single physical location.

Protected data is replicated between geographically separate ProCirrus data centers in the United States, providing another layer of resilience against major facility, infrastructure, network, or regional disruptions.

This geographic separation is an important part of the broader business-continuity model.

Recovery depends on what happened

Not every incident requires the same response.

A user who accidentally deletes a file has a very different recovery need from a failed server, corrupted application, security incident, or significant infrastructure outage.

Depending on the situation, recovery may involve:

  • restoring an individual file or folder

  • returning data to an earlier recovery point

  • restoring a server or application

  • recovering from replicated data

  • bringing systems online through alternate infrastructure

  • coordinating a broader business-continuity response

The goal is to use the fastest appropriate recovery method rather than treating every incident as a full disaster recovery event.

Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity are different

These terms are often used interchangeably, but they address different problems.

Backup protects copies of data.

Disaster recovery addresses how systems and applications are restored after a significant failure or disruption.

Business continuity considers how the organization continues operating while recovery is taking place.

A mature strategy addresses all three.

SaaS does not eliminate the need for backup

Moving an application to SaaS changes who operates the application infrastructure, but it does not necessarily eliminate the firm’s responsibility for protecting its information.

Microsoft 365, cloud applications, document repositories, hosted systems, and traditional servers may all have different recovery capabilities and retention models.

The important question is not simply whether a system is “in the cloud.” It is whether the firm understands what is protected, how long it is retained, where recovery copies reside, and how information will be restored when needed.
